Mahmoud Hakima revives his acclaimed 2009 Fringe Festival performance this month at Dreamland Arts in Saint Paul. Two Bowls of Cereal and Some Bacon, which drew sold-out crowds and standing ovations during its run in August, assembles vivid and heart-rending stories from the writer's own life and presents them in a one hour storytelling pastiche of heartfelt sincerity. Hakima presents his autobiography with a relaxed and deliberate pacing, guiding the listener's attention and imagination as a painter's brush strokes might guide the critic's eye, entertaining viewers with engaging and thought-provoking tales of young love, racism, abuse and Nintendo. The stories told during this show offer connections at a deep and almost subliminal level, leaving the audience touched and inspired for having shared in this poignant piece of the human experience.
Two Bowls of Cereal and Some Bacon can be seen Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. now through November 21st at Dreamland Arts in Saint Paul. Each show is followed by an open discussion between the artists and the audience.
Tickets are $15 (or $12 for students, seniors, and those wearing Fringe Festival buttons) and can be purchased online or through the Dreamland Arts box office at 651-645-5506.
