Two 'bored' pre-teen girls burn down Iowa school playground (videos)

Two pre-teen girls have been taken into custody and charged after authorities say they burned down their Des Moines, Iowa school playground. The incident occurred at the Park Avenue Elementary school at approximately 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2014. The girls are ages 11 and 12 and authorities say school surveillance video showed the girls starting the fire. Upon questioning the young pre-teens, they reportedly told authorities they were bored.

While authorities don’t believe the children intended for the fire to become as serious as it did; they estimate the damage to be approximately $100,000.
In the video report above, you can hear as neighborhood children share their disappointment that the new playground has been ruined. The playground opened in Oct. 2013.

Local news reports stated the blaze was so great, residents saw it from miles away. The children’s identities have not been made public.
