Two blondes and a shrimp restaurant closed until further notice

The restaurant "Two Blondes and a Shrimp" in downtown Sanford will be temporarily closed after suffering damages from a car accident that took place this morning.  The accident happened approximately at 11:30 a.m., when a woman's car began speeding uncontrollably down a city sidewalk.

This all took place at the four way intersection of 1st Street and Park Avenue. Police and fire officials say an elderly woman was at the corner of 1st. Street and Park Avenue this morning when she attempted to apply the brakes at the intersection but instead hit the gas pedal.  This sent the car quickly up and over the corner curb onto the city sidewalk heading east on 1st Street. Several buildings and business sidewalk items were hit until the car finally came to a crashing halt at the front of "Two Blondes and a Shrimp" restaurant.  The small sedan veered toward the left, hit the building, and knocked off a large part of the brick entry and smashing in the large window front and seating area.

Witnesses say, they saw a car, a small blue sedan, jump onto the sidewalk from the four-way intersection and it began speeding down the sidewalk at about 50mph. Luckily, a man who was walking down the same sidewalk but heading in the opposite direction, saw the oncoming car and quickly jumped out of it's way. "After missing him, the car seemed to move faster and out of control.", says one witness.  Then, the car continued speeding down the sidewalk until it finally stopped at the front entrance of the “Two Blondes and a Shrimp" restaurant.  Witnesses say, the owner of the restaurant was standing at the front door and didn't seem to notice the oncoming car. Yet, she stepped away to take a phone call just within seconds of the accident occurring where she was standing.

No one was severely injured, including the driver who suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital. No other cars were involved and it is unknown how severe the damages are to the building at this time. Fire officials have closed the restaurant until further notice due to safety concerns.  The neighborhood rooster survived this bizarre event as well.
