Two people were arrested in Oregon this afternoon when authorities conducting a welfare check discovered a meth lab.
Twenty-six-year-old Megan Steinle and 21-year-old Jay Silva were arrested after Portland Police responded to a request for a welfare check regarding a seven-month old girl. The tip indicated that the baby's mother, Megan Steinle, had relapsed on methamphetamine.
Officers arrived at the residence, where Steinle answered the door, and attempted to prevent them from entering. According to police, the woman stalled officers while her boyfriend ran towards the bathroom. Once officers were inside, both adults were taken into custody and a "shoebox-sized meth lab" was discovered in the bathroom.
The seven-month-old girl was located unharmed inside the home, and was transported to a nearby hospital; authorities have indicated the girl is in "good health".
Neighboring apartments were evacuated for precautionary purposes, while Investigators from the Drugs and Vice Division (DVD) worked to seize the meth lab inside the residence.
Steinle was charged with Child Neglect in the First Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Reckless Endangerment, and Resisting Arrest. Silva was charged with Child Neglect in the First Degree and Manufacturing, Possession and Delivery of Methamphetamine. Both were booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday.
