As many states begin to legalize marijuana for medical reason it appears that our drugs laws are being ignored like our immigration laws. Yesterday, for the third time in three days, U.S. Border Patrol agents patrolling Interstate 8 in the Pine Valley, California area, apprehended another vehicle carrying contraband.

At approximately noon, agents referred a 2009 Honda pilot and its 33-year-old driver for a secondary inspection after a border patrol K-9 alerted the agents. Upon searching the vehicle agents found a small amount of hashish and marijuana in the center console, they also discovered a vacuum sealed package with $51,000 in cash inside a backpack behind the driver's seat. In questioning the 33-year-old driver and his 27 year old male passenger about the money, both declined to claim ownership of the cash. The two men were arrested and booked into the San Diego County jail. The hashish, marijuana, cash, and vehicle were confiscated.

The two prior incidents on I-8 involved cocaine and guns. On Monday, agents detained two U.S. males in a Dodge Neon with two concealed 9 mm semi-automatic pistols. The driver was arrested for being a prohibited person in possession of firearms. On Tuesday, agents arrested a Mexican national male with 14.77 pounds of cocaine concealed in the frame of the vehicle.
