On Monday, March 3, 2014 a Manchester Police press release stated Manchester police officers arrested three people on Sunday, March 2, the result of a large fight involving about 30 people in the area of 141 Laurel Street.
Police said Hector Velez Jr., 19, of Central Street, Manchester is charged with three counts of the felony, Second Degree Assault, one count of the felony, Riot and one count of the misdemeanor, Criminal Mischief.
Ahmed Shehabeldin, 19, of Elm Street, Manchester was also arrested and is charged with Second Degree Assault and Riot.
A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Riot.
The release stated that at approximately 5:15 p.m. multiple officers responded to the area of 141 Laurel Street for a large fight. Responding officers reported the initial confrontation allegedly started near the residence of Velez Jr., in the area of Central Street and Maple Street a short time before the free-for-all took place on Laurel Street.
Upon arrival, Officer Jusza immediately observed multiple people fighting and also observed multiple people bleeding as a result of the rioting that occurred between two groups of people.
Velez Jr. allegedly attacked and injured two people who had to be transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. David Weekly, of Manchester reportedly had been struck with a baseball bat and suffered non-life threatening injuries to his head and body. The second subject attacked was identified as Kevin Jenkins, of Manchester who was treated for an arm injury.
In the fracas, Shehabeldin struck Alfred Nyonee, of Manchester with a stick causing an unknown injury.
It took approximately 16 police officers to restore peace to the area in the wake of the donnybrook, police said. The investigation is ongoing and additional people may be charged as a result of the melee.
