Twitter will be in the operating room for a kidney transplant
Twitter will be in the operating room at the Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Live tweets from the operating room will be updating the world while a three year old gets a kidney transplant from his dad, Chris Gilbreath, a firefighter.
This will be the first time a hospital has used Twitter for a pediatric kidney transplant.
The Children's Medical Center officals feel that using Twitter will help reach the public and educate people of the need for organ donations.
Dr. Dev Desai, the surgeon for the child's kidney replacement, says there are almost 85,000 people on a wait list for kidneys alone.
The Children's Medical Center in Texas performed the most number of pediatric kidney transplants last year.
Follow the Twitter of the surgery starting Monday, May 18 at 6 a.m. CST. As of publishing, 741 followers were involved with the program.
