Twitter founder Jack Dorsey now follows the Paleo diet after lapsing as a vegan, according to an Oct. 16 New Yorker interview with the social-media billionaire.
"Formerly a vegan — too much beta-carotene turned his skin orange — he is now on the Paleo diet, which forbids refined sugar and grains, and alcohol," reads the interview.
It's a dramatic turnaround for Dorsey, because the Paleo diet emphasizes animal proteins, while the plant-based vegan diet avoids all animal products. Both diets encourage eating vegetables and shun processed foods.
Dorsey, who is dating New York yoga teacher Kate Greer, started following the Paleo diet as a New Year's resolution in January 2013.
The reclusive billionaire also revealed that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg used to cook dinner for him. The dinners must've been interesting because Zuckerberg only eats meat he kills himself (which actually makes Zuck "authentically paleo," compared to those of us who buy our grass-fed meats from Whole Foods).
"I've basically become a vegetarian since the only meat I'm eating is from animals I've killed myself," Zuckerberg told Fortune. "So far, this has been a good experience. I'm eating a lot healthier foods and I've learned a lot about sustainable farming and raising of animals.
I don't have an issue with anything people choose to eat, but I do think they should take responsibility and be thankful for what they eat rather than trying to ignore where it came from."
Dorsey, who is based in San Francisco, eventually wants to relocate to New York City so he can follow in the footsteps of fellow billionaire Michael Bloomberg and become NYC Mayor.
"What I love about New York is just the electricity I feel right away," he recently told 60 Minutes. "It's chaos. It's kind of like being in a car in the middle of a thunderstorm. Everything is raging around you, but you're safe inside that car. So New York feels very much to me like that."
