Twitter erupts over photoshopped Scarlett Johannson as 'Black Widow' poster

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" opens on March 26, which means Marvel had better start promoting the heck out of film, right? Twitter, though, cried foul on Thursday, as with a body like Scarlett Johansson's though, is it really necessary for Marvel to photoshop her poster so obviously?

After Marvel unveiled her poster (above), there were plenty of laudatory comments about Johannson. There were also plenty of negative comments about the amount of photoshopping involved. Although they didn't overenhance her topline as much as Barbie, they certainly underenhanced her waistline.

Laurel May ‏@morethanbookish: But that Black Widow poster for The Winter Soldier... WHY would you photoshop Scarlett Johansson's body like that though?

Cath ‏@Caffin9: Scarlett Johansson looks ridiculously photoshop-ed in the Captain America poster. This makes me really angry >:(

Sheri L. Thompson ‏@COtraveler: Another disappointing extreme Photoshop job, @marvel

Shades of Limelight @CertainshadesL: Seriously though. Scarlett Johansson is already curvy. There is zero need to photoshop more curves. None.

Rebecca P ‏@Farscapegeek Shame on the people at @Marvel and @CaptainAmerica that felt you had to photoshop #ScarlettJohansson until she is barely recognizable. #fail

Rebecca Johnson ‏@Missus_Johnson The Black Widow poster for Captain America is odd....why on earth would you photoshop Scarlett Johansson?!

Hannah @hannoir_ you know there is no helping the world when even Scarlett-Joh's already little waist is shopped to an impossible width in the Cap posters.

This is just a sampling.

The Twitter uprising came on a day with far more newsworthy Scarlett Johansson news. The actress stepped down from her role as an Oxfam Global Ambassador on Thursday. The international humanitarian organization said her role as a SodaStream spokesperson was incompatible with their goals.

Oxfam said Thursday that it believes SodaStream and other businesses operating in Israeli settlements in the West Bank contribute to the "denial of rights of the Palestinian communities that we work to support."

Oxfam first expressed concern about Johansson’s role with SodaStream last week.
