Twitter and GoDaddy support homeless pets

Fluffy is available for adoption at HCWS.org

Saving the lives of homeless pets got easier this week with the help of two separate websites. Here are their stories:

GoDaddy Supports Homeless Animals
GoDaddy web hosting and domain registrar helped boost donations for the Arizona Humane Society Telethon by matching every donation made through the internet. Then CEO and Founder of GoDaddy, Bob Parsons delivered a personal donation to the group in the amount of $100,000. Total money raised in the annual telethon was a whopping $328,000.

Thousands of sick, injured and homeless pets across the state will have their lives saved with money raised by the very generous citizens of Arizona and GoDaddy.

Adopt-a-Pet.com Launches Twitter A Critter
Adopt-a-Pet.com, North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, launched TwitterACritter, a new social media campaign that uses Twitter to spread the word about adoptable pets in shelters. The site is set up for pet lovers to Tweet about one of the 130,000 homeless dogs, cats and other pets listed on Adopt-a-Pet.com.

“The bottom line is that if enough people see a shelter pet, that pet gets adopted. There is no better way to expose shelter pets to as many potential adopters as possible, than through Twitter,” said Abbie Moore, executive director of Adopt-a-Pet. “It’s no exaggeration to say that a single tweet can save a life. Imagine the impact it would have if everyone tweeted just one critter a day!”

Wonderful! Here in Massachusetts we hear of so many pet organizations shutting down. I recently helped found -- and am helping run -- Phinney's Friends, an organization that helps low-income people keep their pets when going through hardships. I blogged about us. Check it out: www.thedailytail.com/?p=451
