The Minnesota Twins announced it has signed pitcher Jason Marquis to a one-year contract worth $3 million Thursday.
The 33-year-old right-handed starter posted a 4.43 earned run average in 23 starts. He recorded 76 strikeouts, 43 walks and 11 home runs in 132 innings. His season ended in
The 12-year Major League veteran has spent time with the Atlanta Braves (2000-03), St. Louis Cardinals (2004-06), Chicago Cubs (2007-08), Colorado Rockies (2009), Washington Nationals (2010-11) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2011).
He is a notoriously strong starter and poor finisher. He posted lower ERAs before the All-Star break in eight of his 12 seasons, and four of those seasons include nearly a two run or greater higher ERA after the break.
Moving left-hander Brian Duensing to the bullpen appears more likely with the addition of Marquis.
