Right-hander Yorman Bazardo, who spent the past two seasons in the Houston Astros' organization, has agreed to a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins, with the official announcement being made Sunday, according to Jose Rubicco Huertas of ElUniversal.com.
He'll receive an invitation to Spring Training.
"It's a good opportunity to continue my career," Bazardo said by email Sunday. "I'm hoping to settle down in one place and hopefully that's with Minnesota."
The 26-year-old Bazardo arrived to Spring Training with the Astros in February hoping to earn a job in the bullpen, but was slowed by a sore right shoulder, which resulted in a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
With Bazardo being out of options, the Astros outrighted him to Triple-A Round Rock upon being activated April 23.
After clearing waivers, Bazardo accepted a minor league assignment, and ultimately posted a 4-5 record with a 3.87 ERA in 34 games (five starts) for the Express.
He had a stint with the Astros in 2009, going 1-3 with a 7.88 ERA in 10 games (six starts), yet didn't see any big league action last season.
Bazardo is 3-4 with a 6.86 ERA in 25 major league games (eight starts) during brief stints with the Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers and Astros, and has compiled a 3.89 ERA over 1,091 innings in nine minor league seasons for Florida, Seattle, Detroit and Houston.
He was named a Pacific Coast League Midseason All-Star in 2009.
