The following article is part of an ongoing effort to help homeless dogs in and around Toronto/Hamilton area find suitable and loving homes. Currently, the need is great but the homes are few. Your help is desperately needed.
Barlees Angels Rescue Network of Guelph, Ontario would like to tell you about Ben, a 6-year-old Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso mix who is finding life less and less comfortable now that twins in a family enjoy reaching out and grabbing him. When the babies were first born, all was fine but when the little tykes got up on their feet, Ben and his pal Petey had to always be on the lookout. Both dogs were given to the family as a gift but were re-gifted a few times before they ended up at the rescue.
“We took them in and both were adopted out,” said a spokesperson for Barlees Angels. “Unfortunately, Ben is not doing well with the twins… He started off okay when they were really little but they are now at the age where they’re more mobile and want to reach out and grab him, which is just way too much for him. He is showing more and more discomfort and agitation around the babies and his family, who love him very much and never expected to be in this position…”
Since this situation raised some safety concerns for Ben, he is now up for adoption. He gets along well with other dogs but the spokesperson said it would be nice if he were the only one in his new family. He can be a bit of a firecracker at times and will bark at strangers at first but given time, he warms right up especially if a treat is offered. It is advised that he go to a quiet home without children or only older ones.
“He’s very sweet with his people but strangers are a bit scary for him so a more settled and quiet environment would bring out the best in him. Ben is neutered, housetrained and up-to-date on his routine shots. If you would like more information or wish to adopt this dear boy, email barlees@hotmail.com and put ‘Pet Inquiry: Ben PFId#15762987’ in the subject line.
