Beginning in 1972 as a small picnic in Minneapolis’ Loring Park, the
Pride Festival has become the premier social event and celebration
of the year in the local Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transgender community.
Many organizations have Pride-themed events throughout June, all
culminating the last weekend of the month in Loring Park. Because of
their generous partners, Twin Cities Pride remains one of the few Pride
Festivals in the U.S. that is open and free to the public and approximately
342,000 visitors enjoyed a beautiful weekend in the park in 2009.
