Here’s a dose of bewitching news for Stephenie Meyer fans: Twilight: The Graphic Novel will soon be coming to a bookstore near you.
The exclusive announcement came Wednesday via Entertainment Weekly’s Shelf Life blog, where contributor Tina Jordan shared excerpts from a Q&A with Meyer along with the cover artwork and a sneak peek at one of the book’s panels. (The full interview and a ten-page preview of the graphic novel are featured in the new issue of the magazine, which hits stands today.) Both can be viewed here.
Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 will be published by Yen Press on March 16, with an initial print run of 350,000 copies. The images are penned by artist Young Kim, who graduated from Seoul University with a degree in painting from the College of Fine Arts and currently makes her home in Korea. Writes Jordan, “What strikes me, looking at the book, is how faithfully, and how beautifully…Young Kim has translated Meyer’s original vision…It took me back to reading Twilight pre-movie: Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson faded into the background.”
While Meyer did not write the “script” for the graphic novel, she was involved in the project’s development, and reports that she “did a lot of tinkering” with the dialogue and requested that certain scenes which were initially omitted be inserted. Further, she credits Young with giving her “the feeling I had when I was writing and it was just me and the characters again.”
Future installments are planned for New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, but Meyer is not currently working on any other Twilight-related literary endeavors. Still, she has not ruled out the possibility of doing so in the future: “I can’t say that I am done with Twilight forever…there’s still a possibility that I’ll go back and close some of the open doors.”
