Rachelle Lefevre is using the notoriety she gained as one of the villains of the Twilight saga to promote a pet cause (pun intended). She just filmed a public service announcement for the Best Friends Animal Society's Puppies Aren't Products campaign. (It's similar to a recent PSA filmed by her Twilight co-star Kellan Lutz for PETA.)
Rachelle just finished a short stint on the ABC law drama The Deep End. And since she was replaced in the upcoming Twilight movie, Eclipse, by Bryce Dallas Howard, you'll be able to see her soon in a couple of upcoming movies, including Casino Jack with Kevin Spacey.
If you want to follow Rachelle (and Kellan's!) advice, there are plenty of places in Houston to find a shelter pet. You can try BARC, the shelter for the City of Houston, located at 3200 Carr St. You can see what pets are there waiting on their new homes by checking online.
There's also the Houston SPCA, where they've got dogs, cats, farm animals, and more. If you're looking for something like a horse, sheep, or rabbit, the SPCA can hook you up. And there's the Houston Humane Society.
See, Rachelle and Kellan are right. There are lost of animals right now who need good homes. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for at BARC, the SPCA, or the Humane Society, remember to do a Google search for other local rescue groups, especially if you're looking for a particular breed.

Don't forget about CAP and the plethora of rescue groups in the greater Houston area. There are thousands of dogs just waiting to be adopted in Houston. I'm glad to see stars using their celebrity status to help the animals.
