The ‘Twilight’ film franchise is coming to an end in 2012 with the fifth and final film ‘Breaking Dawn: Part 2’ and with the saga bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars over the years, it’s not surprising to hear that the masterminds behind the films are looking at expanding.
Lions Gate Entertainment acquired the studio behind the ‘Twilight’ series, Summit Entertainment, over the weekend and already they are talking about the future of ‘Twilight.’ Jon Feltheimer, chief executive of Lions Gate, anticipates ‘Breaking Dawn: Part 2’ to bring in an estimated $700 million worldwide upon its release. He said;
"I'm anticipating 'Breaking Dawn Part 2' being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office.”
Feltheimer added that although the books and film have both been completed, he feels that there is still opportunity to move forward with more ‘Twilight’ related projects – possibly in the form of a television show. He said;
“It's hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn't have ongoing value. It's an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is 'Boy I hope so.'"
A source suggested that there may be a ‘Twilight’ television series on the way and when asked about the possibility of ‘Twilight’ turning into a series, Feltheimer said: "I would certainly hope so."
Do you think that ‘Twilight’ would work as a television series without Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner? Leave us your thoughts.
