Twilight puts Forks, Washington on the map

Forks, Washington is a former lumber town on the Olympic Peninsula, sandwiched between the Olympic Mountains on the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.  A few years ago, the spotted owl was the talk of the town.

But a couple of things have changed the conversation. A lot. First Stephenie Meyer's The Twightlight Saga appeared, a series of books set in the mythical community of Forks. Then the movie was released, simply called Twilight.  It's got to be making the folks at the Forks Chamber of Commerce grinning from ear to ear. They even have a link on their cool website about Twilight and this small Washington town has gone Twilight crazy. The media is tuned in too, from stories in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer to the Los Angeles Times.

Forks is really rainy this time of year; making it all that more vampire friendly, for sure. Just bring your umbrella and rain gear.

Miller Tree Inn B&B: I've only stayed in Forks once, at a nondescript hotel in the heart of downtown. No doubt this B&B (pictured above), will be tough to get into. It's billed as the home of the Cullens, the vampire family in "Twilight."

I love Forks, I went there on my Twilight prigrimlage in August. It was a wonderful little town, I can't wait for my next trip there. The day I went, there was at least another 15 Twilighters there I saw...since who else goes around wanting pictures of a police cruiser, the hospital, and the high school when visiting a small town?

I'm happy for Forks -- they've had a rough go of it what with the decline of the lumber industry and all. What a bonus to have this fall into their laps! I haven't read the books (I'm not a fan of vampires), but will probably catch the movie just to see Forks!
