Twilight: Eclipse hunk Robert Pattinson is so popular that he has inspired an underwear line designed to be worn under slim-fit jeans and trousers.

The R-Pant underwear are low-rise briefs and trunks that will be rolled out in Mark & Spencers retail stores in the U.K. this fall. Pattinson, 24, will not star in the ad campaign.

YOUTH RULES

The R-Pant is an attempt to reach the increasingly important youth demographic, which is responsible for the astonishing mainstream popularity of the Twilight franchise.

"Over the last three years we've seen an increase in the popularity of hipsters," Richard Beale, M&S head of merchandising tells the Guardian. "The new range is designed to appeal to a younger, fashion-savvy customer."

Olie Arnold, style director of Men's Health, says there's a market for low-rise underwear. "I hate seeing the waistbands of men's pants poking out of the top of their jeans," he says. "Maybe lots of women will buy them for their husbands and boyfriends."

R-PANT IS DESIGNED FOR FIT MEN

The R-Pant is clearly designed for men with slim builds like Rob and his buff co-stars Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz, which is himself an Armani underwear model.

Fashion houses have long used buff actors and superstar athletes such as David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo to rep their men's jeans and underwear lines, so Rob-inspired underwear line isn't entirely a novel concept. The R-Pant will be available in stores in September 2010.
