I thought that in preparation for the conference season, and being in the holiday spirit, I would sprinkle my poetic talents on you...
'Twas The Week Before Christmas - Missouri Valley Style
‘Twas the week before Christmas, when all thro’ the land
A mid-major conference was taking a stand
The wins against majors were stacked up with care
In hopes that March 11 soon would be there
Nantz, Kellogg and Lundquist; a collection of fools
Who just paid attention to BCS schools
But out in the land, there arose quite a clatter
They sprang from their chairs to see what was the matter
When what to their wondering eyes should appear
But the Missouri Valley having a fine year
With Creighton out front and Wichita State
The rest of the Valley was playing so great
With three months to go before the big dance
Big wins and strong schedules would give them a chance
And after Arch Madness, Selection Sunday came
A day to hear Gumbel shout out their name
Now! Trees, now! Panthers, now! Missouri State!
Join Greg and Gregg; five bids would be great!
To Portland! To Pittsburgh! To other host sites!
Score away! Score away! With all of your mights!
All ‘round the country, the Valley was seen
They landed two teams in the sweet Sweet Sixteen
The Bluejays were tough and the Shockers were stout
None of the big boys could soon knock them out
The tournament ended, the Valley was fine
And with no biased thoughts for the fools to opine
Nantz finally rose and, thus, with his group
Admitted the Valley was mighty a troop
The radio blaring, much sleep in my eyes
Awakened me from my sweet Valley high
It all was a dream! But how could it be?
I swear I just saw Jim Nantz cry on TV!
I took off for work, leaving the Valley behind
Back to the rat race, back to the grind
With hopes that when I meet my pillow tonight
That Doug Elgin’s face is still full of delight
The season is young, the Valley still strong
We knew that the league would be great all along
Are five bids possible? Let’s wait and see…
Merry Christmas to all, and GO MVC!
