Tv tonight: Exotic birds and Alec Baldwin

8 P.M. (HBO) RIO (2011) Jesse Eisenberg lends his voice to Blu, a domesticated blue macaw thought to be the last of his breed, who is taken from Minnesota to Brazil to hook up with a potential mate, Jewel (Anne Hathaway), in this animated feature from Carlos Saldanha.

Once there, he is forced to learn to fly for his life when he is captured by smugglers of exotic birds. Jamie Foxx and will.i.am play a streetwise canary and a cardinal; George Lopez is a paternal toucan and Tracy Morgan is a spirited bulldog.

8 P.M. (Lifetime) SECRETS OF EDEN (2012) John Stamos stars in this adaptation of the novel by Chris Bohjalian about the Rev. Stephen Drew, an adored minister in small-town Vermont, and what appears to be the sadistic murder-suicide of the beloved parishioners Alice (Sonya Salomaa) and George (Graham Abbey) Hayward.

They seem like such a perfect couple, until evidence of an affair between Stephen and Alice surfaces, causing Detective Catherine Benicasa (Anna Gunn) to focus on the minister as the prime suspect. But only the Haywards’ daughter (Samantha Munro) may know what really went on behind closed doors.

9 P.M. (WNBC) NFL HONORS Alec Baldwin hosts this ceremony honoring the best players and plays from the 2011 season, broadcast from the Murat Theater in Indianapolis.

The honors include the Walter Payton N.F.L. Man of the Year Award, which recognizes a player’s community service as well as his on-field excellence; the Associated Press Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year, two of seven awards from The A.P., voted on by a panel of 50 news media members; the Don Shula N.F.L. High School Coach of the Year Award; and the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award. Lenny Kravitz will perform.
