8 P.M. ((WNYW) AMERICAN IDOL Episode: Auditions No. 7: St. Louis-Hopeful vocalists in St. Louis audition for the judges; the world premiere of Madonna's new music video.
9 P.M. (WNBC) THE OFFICE Jim (John Krasinski) returns from jury duty, and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) questions him about every aspect of the case.
9 P.M. (WNET 13) MISS MARPLE, SERIES V: THE SECRET OF CHIMNEYS Miss Marple (Julia McKenzie) accompanies Lady Virginia Revel to a weekend party at her family home of Chimneys. When an important dignitary goes missing, the search reveals a decades-old murder that might be connected to a mysterious diamond theft. Stephen Dillane ("God on Trial") and Edward Fox ("Oliver Twist") guest star.
9 P.M. (HBO) THE UNION (2011) When Elton John and Leon Russell met in 1970, Mr. John was on the verge of stardom with a self-titled album and a Top 10 hit, “Your Song.” Russell, who had played with Phil Spector and the Rolling Stones and written standards like “A Song for You,” was already rock ’n’ roll royalty. Nearly four decades later Mr. John was listening to Mr. Russell’s greatest-hits album when he broke down in tears. Despite not having seen or spoken to Mr. Russell in more than 35 years, he was determined to reconnect...the result was “The Union.” Shot during recording sessions for their album “The Union,” at Village Studios in Los Angeles, the documentary weaves in concert footage of the men throughout their careers.
10 P.M. (WCBS) THE MENTALIST Red Is the New Black-The team investigates the murder of a disgraced fashion designer who was on the verge of a comeback; Agent Darcy continues to look for Red John.
