TV Safety for your Family

Do you have a large, flat panel TV at your house? Is it securely mounted or bolted into place? Do you have a TV that you move from room to room? Did you know that there were106,800 injuries related to TV instability between 2006 and 2012? And, did you know that children under the age of 5 make up nearly half of the total reported TV-related injuries and that a child dies every three weeks because of unsecured TVs?

These statistics come from the website tvsafety.org. Granted that the website is sponsored by a company that makes TV mounting hardware, but, regardless, the site presents a lot of sobering statistics about TV tip over injuries. And, it is all backed up by fact as you can search by zip code or city to find out details about accidents in a specific geographical area.

The tvsafety.org site encourages visitors to learn about TV safety and then to take action by pledging to inform others about tip over dangers and to securely mount your TV in order to protect your family and prevent injuries.

Yes, it's great to watch the San Jose Sharks or the San Francisco 49ers on a large screen, but it's important to make sure your TV is securely mounted in place. Worry about the injuries on screen, rather than worrying about injuries caused by your screen.
