Finally TV lovers will have their day in the sun, as the ATX Festival is bringing Austinites a new kind of festival dedicated to the celebration of all things small screen. It's a television festival devoted to TV's past, present and future, and it will have its premiere run this June in Austin.
Though it's a new kind of festival, it's going to function like a traditional film or music festival. It will celebrate TV in all its under-appreciated glory, from its inception, the early years, to where it is now and where it will go. Like a film festival, there will be panels with cast and crew of TV shows, Q&As, screenings of un-aired TV pilots, and classic show screenings.
Attendees will get the opportunity to interact with actors, directors, show runners and creators, as well as music supervisors, casting directors and studio execs. They may even get the chance to meet industry types involved in their favorite TV show. There will also be parties and socializing opportunities, including some intriguing events called "super secret happy hours."
Television industry mavens Caitlin McFarland and Emily Gipson are spearheading this unique festival event. They have over a decade of experience working in the TV industry, and have used their extensive contacts to put together an experienced advisory board for the festival that includes writers, directors and producers.
Gipson said the reason for the festival stems from their general love of the genre. "At the heart of it, we are both fans of TV. We have created an event for fans like ourselves, and are giving them a chance to engage in 'water cooler' conversations on a larger level with the people that bring their favorite shows to life."
The ATX Festival has begun raising additional funds for the festivities as of January 18th via a Kickstarter campaign. Their design is to raise $25,000, and they have debuted a video for the festival at the Kickstarter campaign website.
