It has been nearly three years since Hurricane Irene devastated parts of Schoharie County. The need for funds to continue restoring the community, however, remains strong. Thus, the 2nd annual "Bounty of the County" festival.
The event, set for Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, will again benefit Schoharie Area Long Term (SALT), the lead agency in coordinating flood-recovery efforts throughout the Schoharie Creek Basin and surrounding areas. "Bounty of the County" highlights the food and agriculture of Schoharie County. The featured event will be a dinner prepared by Nicole Brisson, a Schoharie County native who is executive chef of the Mario Batali's steakhouse Carnevivo in Las Vegas.
The event will start on Saturday with a cocktail event at the historic Schoharie Covered Bridge, hosted by Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, known as The Fabulous Beekman Boys. They are goat farmers and lifestyle entrepreneurs in Sharon Springs, stars of “The Fabulous Beekman Boys” on the Cooking Channel and past winners of a season of “The Amazing Race” on CBS. Dinner at the Carrot Barn, located at 5605 State Route 30 in Schoharie, will follow, cooked by a team led by Brisson.
Everything served at the dinner will be locally sourced and donated. The menu:
First Course / Antipasti -- Due Ouva: Charred asparagus lightly dressed in lemon, topped with hard-boiled egg and salted fish roe; Carne Cruda: Piemotese style beef tartar; Smoked Trout with new potatoes, red onion and capers; Mixed green salad with an herbed lemon vinaigrette with strong cheese.
