TV host shot and killed by jealous husband who later killed himself

A man shot and killed a TV host while the host was visiting this man’s wife. According to Fox News Live on Friday, March 8, 2013, the popular host of the Sportsman Channel’s “A Rifleman’s Journal,” Gregory G. Rodriguez, was shot by Wayne Bengston, who then beat his wife.

He then took his two-year-old son to a relative's home and then drove to his house where he apparently shot himself. This killing was done in an apparent jealous rage, according to the Associated Press on Friday.

The woman, who survived the beating, met Rodriguez at a firearms show and they struck up a friendship. She works for a firearm manufacturer. Police do not believe the relationship between the TV host and this woman was romantic in nature.

Rodriquez was in town on business and went to woman’s mother’s home to visit his friend. Bengston burst into the Whitefish, Colorado home about 10:30 p.m. and shot Rodriquez, who was sitting at the table with this woman having a glass of wine.

The police later found Bengston’s truck in his driveway, but he was not answering their calls. Police finally entered the home to find him dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Rodriquez is not only a TV host, he is also the founder and CEO of Global Adventure Outfitters. He was also an editor for Shooting Times Magazine and a contributing editor to Hunting, Guns & Ammo and Dangerous Game.

His Sportsman Channel show “A Rifleman’s Journal” tracks Rodriquez’s hunting journeys to locations that are exotic.
