What do you get when you have four housewives? A Whole lot of drama on a suburban street? You get Desperate Housewives. Every week on the TV drama Desperate Housewives, each housewife has a secret agenda in the fictional American suburb Wisteria Lane. Since its premiere on October 3, 2004 on ABC. The series has received multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards and millions of audiences worldwide. The Housewives cast stars Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Teri Hatcher as Susan Meyer, Marcia Cross as Bree Van De Kamp, Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis and Nicolette Sheridan as Edie Brit.

In its first season, one of the housewives' Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) commits suicide by gun shot. A new mystery comes to the suburb of Wisteria Lane and what is behind closed doors is either revealed as light or dark. In the twist of the Young death, a handsome plumber Mike Delfino (James Denton) searches for the truth as to what happened to his drug-addicted girlfriend Deirdre that went missing 15 years ago. It just so happens that Mary Alice Young who was once known by the name of Angela Forrest who bought Deidre's son Dana and her husband Paul move the town of Fairview. Only a wrong turn for the worst comes around when the estranged mother Deirdre comes to the town to search for her child but only happens to whined up murder by Mary Alice. Later on in the series, there's talk about a toy chest that is found with dismembered bones and a note that is found by one of her friend's which hints to a deeper secret.

How did creator Marc Cherry best-known for producing the hit comedy series The Golden Girls get this well-liked idea? Well, it started when talking to his mother about the times when her husband was away and raising Cherry and his other siblings. The show at first was pitched as a female comedy and was turned down by networks such as Lifetime and HBO, however, ABC expressed an interest. Then it was rewritten and pitched to be a nighttime soap opera and it sold. ABC however was not impressed with the name Desperate Housewives and initially wanted to call it Wisteria Lane and The Secret Lives of Housewives. "On May 18, 2004 ABC announced their 2004-2005 lineup, with Desperate Housewives in the Sunday, 9:00-10:00 p.m. slot, which it still holds" says ABC.

April 19, 2009 would air the last episode of Edie Brit. This would be a big disapointment for Edie Brit fans to see their favorite character for five seasons gone. However, Sheridan wasn't so sad as she said in TV Guide Magazine. "Ok, sayonara. Its been a great ride. Thank you." April 20, 2009, the Desperate Housewives' mourns Edie's sudden death and spread her ashes around Wisteria Lane. "The ladies of Wisteria Lane take a road trip to break the unfortunate news to her absent son. Along the way, each Housewife flashes back to a moment when Edie revealed herself to be a true friend, a complicated woman with her own tragedies, insecurities and vulnerabilities. In the end, they scatter Edie's ashes with few words but much sentiment" says TV Guide.

Edie Brit played by Nicolette Sheridan has been a sexy, scandalous woman and almost like the female villain of the neighborhood. She was the kind of woman that could get any man but her current marriage to psychopath Dave Williams brings her closer to the end. Edie said her final farewell to Wisteria Lane. Housewives co-star Dana Delaney had this to say about Sheridan's departure from the show. "We're losing an icon. The Edie character and Nicolette in particular is such an iconic figure. She's a classic a classic femme fatale. Could Edie ever be replaced? I don't think there's a lot of women like that left anymore. So I think it will be a void for a while. Nicolette is such a classy person that I think she's already like, okay, fine. Moving on."

This series deals with not only female bonding but there's a lot more to it like mischief, mayhem, and murder. There's also genre combinations such as soap opera, mystery, and situation comedy. "No wonder people have called Desperate Housewives "Sex and the Suburbs" Like HBO's popular Sex and The City, this sexually tamer but equally smart ABC show features four female friends who experience life as its quirkiest and frequently get together to talk about their feelings and frustrations" says James Plath.
