“The Impossible Dream” is within reach at Theatre Under the Stars’ latest production of Man Of La Mancha, which will run until March 10th at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts at 800 Bagby.
The story of the whimsical, fabled Don Quixote tells the tale of his quest to become a legend in his own mind. As the hero embarks on his noble adventure, drama ensues as he strives to win the favor of his lovely muse, Dulcinea.
Five revivals and five Tony Awards, one including Best Musical, have recognized this production labeled as “play within a play”which has moved audiences to laugh, lust and love along with the classic, larger than life characters.
Man of La Mancha’s original 1965 Broadway production ran for 2,328 performances and is a musical with a book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh.
The TUTS’ talented, experienced cast includes veteran stage performer, Paul Schoeffler as Don Quixote, Josh Lamon as Sancho Panza, Laurent Giroux as The Padre in the lead roles as well as Ceasar F. Barajas, Phillip Michael Baskerville, Michael Brian Dunn, Julia Krohn, Elyse Langley, Maegan McConnell, Shaun R. Parry, Spencer Rowe, Eadie Scott, Matthew Steffens, Michael Tapley, Jessica Vosk, Kristin Warren and Marguerite Willbanks.
Bruce Lumpkin, TUTS’ artistic director, pioneered the creative team as director for Man of La Mancha. Lumpkin’s work with TUTS’ ranges from Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Miss Saigon, Funny Girl and Grand Hotel.
