Turquoise: good for your soul and your home

One of the most vibrant colors to apply in your home is turquoise. While it cannot be over used, since it is a statement bold color, it can act as an outstanding accent color in any room of your house.

It is well known that color plays a major role in setting up a particular mood or state of mind.  It has a powerful impact on our sense of well-being or discomfort, alike. Hence, using and avoiding certain colors is a way of self-expression. Color affects our way of perception, making a room look bigger or smaller, more serious or on the contrary, more cheerful.

Chromotherapy comes into place; inspired by nature from the ocean to the sky, turquoise is known for its soothing effect, releasing tranquility and calmness. A breath of rejuvenation, turquoise also suggests a lot about one’s personality: originality and ingenuity.

There are several ways to add some pops of turquoise into your residence:

1.      You can begin with the easiest one: a can of paint. It instantly changes the mood of a room and it comes at a very convenient price. Try some samples before you commit to one color, after which pick an accent wall to use it on. Benjamin Moore in New York is sure to have several color suggestions.

2.      For a more sophisticated look, light turquoise wallpaper will definitely brighten up your surroundings. You can choose a more traditional Damask pattern, a geometrical one or a simple modern blueprint.

3.      Have you ever tried stenciling? If not, this lively choice can add the much desired wow factor. With its originality, you are sure to impress your guests. Stencils are solid elements that bring both the traditional and modern elements together.

4.      Accessorize your living space with turquoise accessories; if you are not feeling comfortable with too much color, then bold accent pieces are much needed. Pillows, drapery, lamps, vases, mirrors or photo frames, are all excellent examples. The same goes for some flamboyant area rugs. Pier 1, HomeGoods and ABC Carpet & Home in New York are excellent stores for accessories.

5.      Painted furniture is perhaps the most clever way to add charm; by repurposing your existing traditional furniture, you not only save up but your space is instantly transformed. Paint your console table, desk, vanity to bring a desired, playful pop of color to a neutral decor. Repurposing items goes especially well with shabby chic or chic modern styles.
