Turning a gift basket into a business

A personalized gift basket is the perfect gift!

Think about the last gift you received. Was it something you really wanted? Or was it something that someone picked up, wrapped up and handed to you? Maybe your gift giver would have loved to to give you something more personal, something more your style. But maybe they just could not find the perfect gift for you. Why not? Because shopping for gifts is hard to do! There are so many options yet nothing is ever quite right. If only someone could come up with the perfect gift! This is where you come in.

If you need extra money and you have a crafty touch you can turn making gift baskets into a terrific business! All you need to do is get a plan and put the plan to work. Starting out is easy because you do not have to buy anything up front. In fact, you don't want to buy anything until you listen to what your client wants. Then you go shopping and start your gift basket business!

But there are plenty of gift baskets on the market already. Why would anyone buy a basket from you? Because your gift baskets will be different.  They will be custom made. You will get what the client wants and for the price the client can afford. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

For a gardener: a basket filled with seed packets, gloves, a hand shovel, etc.

For a handy man: a tool caddy with a hammer, screwdriver, tape measure, etc.

For a mom: a laundry basket with detergent, bleach, fabric softener, etc.

For a dog lover: a pet bed with a few pet toys, dog food, dog treats, etc.

You get the idea. You can turn ANYTHING into a gift basket! Once you have your plan in place it's time to go out and get a few clients. Tell everyone you know about your new gift basket business. Tell your family, your friends, your co-workers.  Make some business cards, print out some flyers. Ask some local mom and pop shops if you can have a gift basket display in their store. Get the word out there and you will soon be in business!

Keep your clients ordering from you by reminding them of upcoming occasions when they might need your gift baskets! Keep a log of all their important dates... anniversaries, birthdays, etc. They will love the reminders. The more they depend on you the more money you will make!

What you charge for your service is up to you. Make sure you are covered for the cost of everything in the gift basket plus any other expenses. And make sure you get paid for your time. Don't be afraid to ask top dollar. You are worth it!
