Many of us consider dessert to be the most important part of every meal. The idea of having to give it up is too terrible to fathom. Just because you have decided the time has come to eat healthier, it doesn’t mean you have to give up dessert. You just have to change the way you prepare it so that your dinners are accompanied by healthy desserts.

Instead of purchasing ready-made or even boxed kits for desserts, you need to start making your own tasty treats. Making your own desserts allows you to tinker with the recipes, making them healthier, something you can’t do when you’re dealing with a ready-made dessert.

Eliminating the junk from your favorite desserts and turning them into healthy desserts won’t be nearly as difficult as you think. The first thing you need to do is stop baking with sugar. There was a time when sugar was the best thing you could use to sweeten a dish, but not any longer. Instead of keeping a bag of sugar in your cupboard, you need to replace it with Splenda, which is a less fattening substitute.

Swapping your regular sugar for Splenda is just one way to enjoy healthy desserts. In addition to using Splenda, you should cut the amount of sugar the recipe calls for in half. Replace the missing half with honey. The honey will be every bit as sweet as the sugar, it will cause your ingredients to stick together better, and it is really healthy. Many people have found they like their favorite desserts even better when they use honey instead of sugar.

The next thing you need to do is look at the ingredients that have a high fat content. Don’t worry, just because you’re making healthy desserts you won’t have to eliminate the high fat ingredients. What you want to do is reduce them. If the recipe suggests a cup of something that’s high in fat, try using 3/4th or even 1/2 cup instead. You probably won’t even notice the difference. You should also use the lowest fat milk you can possibly find. Skim milk instead of whole milk won’t change the flavor of your dessert, but it will change the fat content.

The final thing you need to do when preparing converting your favorite recipes into healthy desserts is to stop using frosting. Instead of putting frosting on the top of your cakes and cupcakes try them without the frosting, or sprinkle a light coating of powdered sugar over the top.

When you’re ready to serve the healthy desserts. You can find healthy dessert recipes by visiting My Tartelette, which is a great cake & dessert recipes site.
