A recent study has shown that extracts from the spice turmeric can kill cancer cells. Turmeric which is found in curry, has a long history of use in herbal medicine. Past studies involving turmeric and arthritis have focussed the spotlight on turmeric as a powerful medicine. It should be noted that while turmeric is a valuable herbal medicine, there are other spices that can also be effective.

Turmeric, from a herbal perspective is classified as a “blood mover”, meaning that it reduces pain by moving energy through the body. Many herbs that have been classically used for cancer are “blood movers”. Most spices by nature have a “moving” component. Turmeric is in the family zingiberaceae. The zingiberaceae family includes many powerful medicinal herbs that also happen to be common spices. They include ginger, cardamon, and galangal.

These spices are also common because of the “stomach warming” nature of the herbs. Curry, which is a mix of spices (including turmeric), is very important to the diet in India. In a climate where it is often very hot and humid, the appetite naturally decreases. Warm yellow spices help the digestion, and counter the appetite suppressing qualities of the environment. Yellow spices are often used to help treat obesity, which is linked to cancer and many other health problems.

The lesson is this; Adding more appropriate spices to a healthy diet can help your body function better. A healthier diet that supports the function of the body, can make you less susceptible to some of health problems that are far too common in our modern age.
