Sacramento Surge lost to their rivals the Turlock Express Saturday night by the score of 9-1. The Express came out on fire scoring three quick goals in the first period and never looked back. The heated rivalry between these two was very apparent last night as both teams played very aggressively leading to over a half dozen blue cards being tossed about and a yellow that was issued to the Surge near the end of the game. A large crowd was on hand at the Off the Wall Indoor Soccer Complex for fan appreciation night. Many fans from Turlock came down HWY 99 as well to cheer on their playoff bound Express.
The game started out foul free until the second period when chippy play by both teams started to grind on the players. Four Blue cards were handed out during the second period for unsportsmanlike conduct and too many on-field fouls. The short handed Surge gave up a Power Play Goal to Turlock marring what would have been a scoreless period (due to the Surge's pressing offense after settling down from the goal barrage of the first period). But halfway through the third period everything went pear shaped for the Surge by letting the Express score two quick goals. Sacramento scored a goal on the power play advantage in the fourth period and was getting back the momentum until Turlock scored three goals icing the road win.
Turlock Express (8-7) head back home to host the Tacoma Stars (8-7) Friday night. The Surge (1-14) will play their final game of the 2012-2013 season against the Tacoma Stars this Saturday night at the Off the Wall Indoor Soccer Complex.
