The Meridian International Center, as part of the U.S. Turkish Jazz Exchange, hosted performances by five emerging jazz musicians from Turkey for a weeklong exchange of an expression of jazz through the cultures. The musicians performed at venues all around DC this past week with the festivities culminating in a final performance at the Turkish Cultural Heritage Festival this afternoon from 2-3pm. This was the musicians’ first trip to the States in support of their evolution as jazz musicians and artists. This afternoon’s performance, which will also feature the Blues Alley Youth Orchestra, is being described as “a highlight” of the 2nd Annual Turkish Cultural and Heritage Month. Go out and show your support.
The five artists featured as part of this exchange are pianist Berk Kurdoglu, vocalist Cemre Yilmaz, bassist Emre Topak, drummer Serkan Alogak, and guitarist Yunus Emre Muti.
