February is not only a time for tending to affairs of the heart – it also is a time to attend to the heart. During the month of February, many health organizations and health facilities will be observing American Heart Month by offering online education and local educational events to the public for the purpose of addressing the current trend of heart problems and how to prevent heart disease.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), thousands of people in America die from heart-related problems every year. Many of these deaths could easily have been prevented.
One local health facility that will be educating the public on heart disease prevention this month is the Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. This Tennova branch hospital will be offering a free seminar featuring Dr. Rachel Bowman who will discuss five ways to prevent heart disease without the use of medications. The one-day seminar begins at 12:00 pm and ends at 1:00 pm on February 25, 2014. Lunch will be provided; therefore, it is best to call ahead at 1-855-TENNOVA (836-6682).
