Casey Spradling, filmmaker and resident of Mantachie, Mississippi died on July 18, 2014. He was involved with the making of "The Hollars" movie, which was being shot in Mississippi at the time of his death. Casey was loved by many, and his name will not be forgotten. A "Celebration of Casey Spradling" and fundraiser for the "Casey Spradling Endowment" will be held in Tupelo, Mississippi on August 10, 2014. "Casey Spradling Memorial Fundraiser and Celebration of Life is set for Sunday, August 10 at the Link Centre in Tupelo, Ms. – Good food, art, music, friends and a live auction is what is planned to celebrate the life of Casey Spradling of Mantachie (but a permanent fixture in Tupelo and the Mississippi film scene) this Sunday at the Link Centre at 1800 West Main Street, Tupelo.
Casey Spradling died on Friday, July 18 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He had been working on the film, “The Hollars” when he collapsed. Casey died doing what he loved and the film and artistic community of Mississippi plans to celebrate his contribution to the state and raise funds to help support future filmmakers like Casey.
The event will be held Sunday, August 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the rehearsal hall and black box theater of the Link Centre. The event is free and open to the public. There will be food from several Tupelo restaurants including FairPark Grill, Bar-B-Q by Jim, Buffalo Wild Wings, Bishop’s BBQ, Romies Grocery, Café 212, Tellini’s Pasta Market, Nautical Whimsey, Danver’s and Sweet Tea & Biscuits, plus donations of cheesecake, cupcakes and more food by individuals.
Beverages will include Yalobusha Brewing Company kegs and Mitchell Distributing canned beer as well as Starbucks coffee donated by Barnes and Noble plus waters and sodas donated by individuals.
Raffle tickets will be on sell for $5 a piece to win a variety of items that will be on display including art, t-shirts and photographs taken by Casey Spradling. A live auction of numerous items ranging from a value of $25 to $500 will also occur from 2 – 3 p.m. The items will be on display beginning at 1 p.m. From 3-4 p.m. friends and family will share memories of Casey Spradling.
From 1 to 4 p.m. in the black box theater, a slideshow of Casey on various sets, his YouTube readings of his writings and two films he had a role in will play continuously.
