The Arc is the largest national community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their familes. Friday, February 10th is a special day for The Arc. 150 leaders of The Arc from across the country will gather at the White House to attend a White House Community Leaders Briefing just for The Arc.
The event will allow leaders of The Arc chapters, including people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), to be briefed by high level White House and Administration officials on topics ranging from Medicaid to education to community living for people with I/DD, and have the chance to engage with and ask questions of these officials.
You are invited to tune in online. The opening session of the day will be streamed live, courtesy of the White House live feed at whitehouse.gov/live from 8:00 to 11:00 AM ET. Participants will also be live-tweeting from the event so feel free to join in by following the #AtTheWH hashtag on Twitter. You can also share your thoughts by tweeting at @TheArcUS or leaving a comment on their Facebook page.
The strength of The Arc comes from their more than 140,000 members and more than 700 state and local chapters nationwide. They are on the front lines to ensure that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families have the support they need to be members of the community. They encompass all ages and all spectrums from autism, Down syndrome, Fragile X and various other developmental disabilities.
Founded in 1950, The Arc was comprised of a small group of concerned and passionate parents and community members who would be catalyst for changing the public perception of children with disabilities. For the past 60 years, The Arc has continued to grow and evolve along with the changing needs and issues people with disabilities and their families face.
Tune in and watch this exciting opportunity for The Arc!
