Tulsa women defeat Southern Miss

Things went the way of the Tulsa women Sunday in a 78-56 win over Southern Miss at the Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesberg, Miss.

Taleya Mayberry led Tulsa (8-13 overall, 3-5 in Conference USA) with 17 points. Kelsee Grovey, Ashley Clark, Mariah Turner and Kadan Brady also landed in two figures with 16, 13, 10 and 10 points respectively.

Mayberry’s scoring totals also immersed her into a tie for second on TU’s all-time scoring list.

Tiffani Couisnard grabbed 10 rebounds.

TU had the upper hand from the start. It was up 18-9 early, then led 38-31 at halftime. A 21-5 run at the start of the second half, surging to a 59-36 advantage.

The Golden Hurricane shot 53 percent (32-of-61) in field goals, 40 percent (8-of-20) in 3-point baskets and 35 percent (6-of-17) in free throws. The out-boarded the Golden Eagles (12-9, 4-4) 42-34.

Southern Miss shot 35 percent (19-of-54) in field goals, could not make a 3 in five attempts and sank 72 percent (18-of-25) from the foul stripe.

Tulsa host Tulane next Sunday at the Reynolds Center. Game starts at 2 p.m.
