Athletes at Tulsa have been getting recognition for their accomplishments lately. The latest is Tristan Jackson, who was announced Tuesday as Conference USA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
He played a big part in No. 23 Tulsa’s upset win over 11th-ranked Texas A&M Sunday at the Case Tennis Center.
Jackson, a junior from Perth, Australia, began the weekend when he won both his matches in the Hurricane’s win over Wichita State last Friday. He won his singles’ match over the Shockers’ Erick Reyes, 6-2, 6-3.
Against A&M, Jackson was a winner against Jeremy Efferding, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. He is presently on a three-match win streak. He and teammate Grant Ive, split their doubles matches over the weekend. They won against Wichita State, but lost to Texas A&M.
TU players have now won 12 of the last 13 weekly honors from the league dating backs to last season.
The Hurricane’s next match will be Friday against Arkansas, which will take place at 6 p.m. at the Case Tennis Center.
Recapping the weekend
Tulsa defeat Wichita State, 6-1, last Friday. It swept in the doubles matches and took five of the six singles matches.
In its upset of Texas A&M, also a 6-1 decision, the Hurricane won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches.
Women’s Tennis
Anastasia Erofeeva won her 92nd career doubles match, setting the school record for wins in that category while the Hurricane defeated Kansas State, 6-1, last Friday at the Case Tennis Center.
Erofeeva and partner Ewa Szatkowska were winners in the No. 1 doubles after defeating the Wildcats’ Carli Wischoff and Pietra Niedermayerova, 6-3.
Erofeeva moved past Alexandra Kichoutkin, who set the record with 91 wins in her final campaign last season.
Against Kansas State, TU won all but one of their singles matches and swept the doubles.
TU swept its matches in a 7-0 win against Texas-Arlington Sunday at the Case Tennis Center.
Next for the women is a match against Arkansas, 3 p.m. next Tuesday at home.
