Tulsa got off on the wrong foot at home against UAB Wednesday night and the result was a 70-63 loss to the Blazers.
UAB had built up a 24-point lead in the first half and owned a 43-31 advantage at halftime.
Rashad Ray led TU with 17 points, Pat Swilling Jr. scored 11 and Shaquille Harrison got 10.
Rod Rucker led UAB with 17 points, Quincy Taylor got 14 and Terence Jones made 13.
Tulsa (12-11, 4-5) shot 39 percent (20-of-52) in field goals, 22 percent (4-of-18) in 3-pointers and hit 61 percent (19-of-31) in free throws.
UAB (10-13, 2-6) shot 55 percent (24-of-44) in field goals, 45 percent (9-of-20) in 3-point field goals and hit 65 percent (13-of-20) in free throws.
Both teams had the same amount of rebounds with 32 each.
The Blazers 24-point lead came with 3:44 remaining in the first half, when Jones got a 3-pointer to make the score 40-16.
Tulsa then woke up as Ray led a late first-half charge with nine points in the span, bringing TU to within 12 points at the break.
The Hurricane kept battling but could no close than the final seven-point margin.
Tulsa takes to the road to meet UTEP at 8 p.m. Saturday.
