For luxe accommodations, fabulous discount shopping, a rejuvenating spa, lively casino and tempting award-winning dining options, AAA Four Diamond Tulalip Resort Casino has the recipe for an easy, unforgettable girlfriend getaway.
During a recent visit in Seattle, I wanted to take my mom (who doubles as my best girlfriend) on last minute getaway. I didn’t have time to research a bunch of different activities, restaurants, spas which is what I usually do to put together our getaways, so I was thrilled when I came across Tulalip Resort Casino, the perfect “one-stop shop” for all our needs-- plus it’s only 30 miles from Seattle.
I was pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to the stylish resort, which I had feared might have an over-the-top Liberace/Vegas design sensibility. Instead it was quite sophisticated, using vibrant Northwest Coast Salish artwork in honor of their Native American heritage. Standouts include the immense “story-telling” totem pole as well as the striking hallway carpets, which pay homage to the Tulalip Tribe’s traditional cedar basket designs, albeit in a contemporary manner. The large black V-shaped pattern represents mountains, the small black diamonds represent lakes and the large black and red rectangles and triangles represent bear tracks.
Service throughout the whole hotel (including the restaurants and casino) was gracious and highly professional, which one expects from a four-diamond resort but so often doesn’t receive.
The oversized guest rooms are ever so comfy, tastefully appointed (even down to a red covered roll of toilet paper to match the artwork) and immaculate. The beds are top-notch with luxury euro pillow top mattress bed sets and cotton ball-plush pillows. The glammy bathrooms are huge, featuring imported Italian tiles, granite countertops, a separate glass enclosed 3-massage-head shower built for two and custom blended eco-friendly bath amenities. We loved the twin sinks with separate make-up vanities.
If you strike it rich at the 192,000-square-foot casino (bragging rights include over 2,400 of the newest slots and the most cash back of any Northwest casino) you might want to upgrade to one of the five specialty suites. Each one is unique, offering upgraded amenities such as the ebony and chrome baby grand piano in the penthouse Tulalip Suite or the arcade-style games and custom pool table found in the tricked out Players Suite.
Restaurants run the gamut from casual to the finest of fine dining. For a quick bite head to the Cedars Café or The Draft Sports Bar & Grill, or “fill-er-up” at the Eagles Buffet, which includes a healthier cooked-to-order Mongolian grill option. For an upscale meal your choices are the award-winning Tulalip Bay, traditional Tulalip tastes at Blackfish Wild Salmon Grill & Bar or Asian fusion cuisine at Journeys East.
We had heard rave reviews about the alder smoked salmon so opted for a seafood dinner at Blackfish, where we were generally impressed with the food. The alderwood-roasted clams were plump, juicy and flavorful, and the silken black cod was sheer perfection. We couldn’t stop gorging on the long shards of flatbread served with a trio of seasoned butters. Surprisingly, the only clunker was the signature salmon, cooked on spears over an open wood fire pit, which was both dry and tasteless.
To work off some calories there is a small but well equipped gym with treadmills, bikes and free weights. There is also a covered Oasis Pool, teaming with happy children, though it is adults only later at night.
Alternatively, you can walk over to The Seattle Premium Outlet Mall next door for some aerobic shopping (a complimentary shuttle is available if you want to save your energy for retail therapy). Over 125 outlet stores compete for your winnings including Adidas, Calvin Klein, Gap Outlet, Nike outlet stores, Guess, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren, Aldo, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, Gap outlet, BCBG Max Azria, Burberry and several other well-known brands.
There are several venues for entertainment. Check the calendar to see who’s performing at the popular Orca Ballroom. Past acts include Bill Cosby, Wayne Brady, Dana Carvey, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes.
Foodies will want to mark the calendar for November 14th and 15th, when Tulalip Resort Casino presents the 6th Annual Taste of Tulalip, an elegant and indulgent weekend of exceptional food paired with the finest wines from over 120 wineries.
