Update: Tuesday night the Florida Highway Patrol identified the deceased driver as 61-year old Mary Bullington of Southport, North Carolina.
One woman was killed in an accident on I-4 in Volusia County Tuesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The woman's identity had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon, as relatives had not yet been notified. FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes says the vehicle the woman was driving ran into the back of a semi which had stopped off the road on eastbound I-4 at the 125 mile-marker at around 8:38 Tuesday morning. A few minutes before the accident, a witness called FHP dispatchers to report that the woman was “…driving erratically.” The accident then happened as the witness was speaking with FHP Dispatch. Troopers say the woman died at the scene. One of two dogs in the vehicle was also injured, and both were taken to the Halifax Humane Society. The driver of the semi, a Jacksonville resident, was not injured. Troopers say the crash remains under investigation. In a Tweet at 9:14 Tuesday morning, @volusiafire reported that all lanes of the interstate had been shut down due to the accident.
