Boulder-area National Novel Writing Month participants hate to see December come around. They've spent most of November writing together, jazzing on the energy of shared goals in a shared workspace. Many of them are understandably reluctant to return to their habitual solitary exile.
When NaNoWriMo 2008 ended, a small group of Boulder "Wrimos" determined to continue meeting Tuesdays at lunchtime, and they haven't stopped yet. After rotating through several downtown locations, they've settled firmly into the Atlas Purveyors just off the corner of Pearl and 15th.
Atlas serves a wide selection of high-quality teas by the cup or in generous-sized personal pots. If the barista thinks you're letting your brew get weak, they'll often add extra tea leaves, no charge. Coffee's available too, along with bagels, scones, and a solid meal of a breakfast bagel (egg, spinach, tomato, optional choice of meat). A new lunch menu just went up today.
The Wrimos have watched Atlas renovate and redefine itself over the months. Wall-length chalkboards went up, sporting scribbles of the moment alongside painstaking reproductions of famous artwork. National Geographic back-issues offer endless inspiration. And the limited power outlets built into the walls have sprouted bouquets of hydra-headed extension cords to keep up with laptop-users' demand for electricity.
Busy as they are--they serve a full house day in and day out--the staff at Atlas have grown noticeably fond of their weekly writing group. "It must be Tuesday," is a common greeting when a Wrimo regular steps up to the register. And the Boulder Wrimos are equally fond of Atlas. You can join them by subscribing to the Boulder Wrimos Yahoo! Group. Or just walk into Atlas shortly after noon on a Tuesday, look for NaNoWriMo stickers on laptops, and introduce yourself.
