Tucson fear causes Sarah Palin gala cancellation in Colorado

News Flash - Cancellation of event featuring Sarah Palin announced: Within the last hour, an announcement has been made that the Sharon K Pacheco Foundation (SKP Foundation), reacting to  grave safety concerns for Sarah Palin and others, have  canceled a gala charity event scheduled for May, 2011, in Colorado.

Although no direct threats were cited, the organization is reacting to what they describe as an "onslaught of negative feedback" and "increased negative rhetoric" that speaks to post anger and fears of  the Tucson tragedy. This charity event was to honor the military.

NEWS FLASH: Event Featuring Sarah Palin Canceled by SKP Foundation on Saturday, February 5, 2011 (Transcript of that announcement in full):

The Sharon K Pacheco Foundation (SKP Foundation) announced today the cancellation of the 2011 Patriots & Warriors Charity Gala, featuring former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, citing safety concerns resulting from an onslaught of negative feedback received by the organization after yesterday’s announcement.

“Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Governor Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns,” says the Foundation’s Director.

He points out that no direct threats have been made against anyone, but the recent increase in negative rhetoric against the former Alaska governor “raises concern for her safety and the safety of others despite the call for civility in America,” following the tragic Tucson shooting.

The organization deeply respects Sarah Palin, and appreciates her willingness to come and honor our military. The organization plans to host the event at some point in the future, featuring another speaker.

It's easy to imagine the kind of palpable hate  rhetoric and personal attacks that the SKP Foundation experienced when a simple article, "Sarah Palin's Reagan speech: 'Don't tread on me' top applause lines", published  only hours ago, has already generated an onslaught of hate comments from the far left.

Canceling this event out of fear sets a dangerous precedent. Americans cannot  and must not give in to this, a  kind of left-wing domestic terrorism,  designed to keep the opposition down and silenced.  This is the time when freedom loving men and women take a stand or sit down and shut up.

"Canceling this event out of fear sets a dangerous precedent."

Cowards are the first to perish in the onslaught of tyranny, followed by the appeasers and the traitors.

the event was canceled because of low ticket sales. Can't you handle the truth?

"...He points out that no direct threats have been made against anyone, but the recent increase in negative rhetoric against the former Alaska governor..."

"...Canceling this event out of fear sets a dangerous precedent. Americans can not and must not give in to this, a kind of left-wing domestic terrorism,.."

so, every time Rush and Glenn give "negative rhetoric" about Obama, they are being right-wing domestic terrorists?

No, it's the left that is historically most often violent.

    Walrus

Name one left wing event that organizers canceled because of something Rush or Glenn said - just one - that was bombarded with such frightening rhetoric that the organizers canceled the entire event.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

How about you giving one example of the so called "frightening rhetoric" .

  • walrus 1 year ago

are you saying that because this group decided to "cut and run" over some comments (no threats) liberals should also "cut and run" over some rhetoric?....remember, NO THREATS, only rhetoric..as for "FRIGHTENING" rhetoric, do you have proof of that? I haven't seen any from your article.......have you even considered that maybe, just maybe, Palin was just too polarizing for what should have been a non-partisan charitable event? Maybe, just maybe, a partisan person overstepped their authority in inviting a polarizing Palin and half the participants threatened not to show up...this was a charitable event, not a party push...imagine if Pelosi was invited to speak to the runners at Race for the Cure...you would pull out and give them a lot of "negative rhetoric" wouldn't you?...Palin was invited by someone that shouldn't have invited her and then had to be un-invited for being too polarizing for the charitable event.

read the articles in the local Denver newspapers. The event was canceled because of low ticket sales. The grave concern was the charity would be in the hole without ticket sales.
First they reduced the price by $15.00, no takers. How about 1/2 price. No Thank You.
Respect the power of the pocketbook.
The victim drama story is old and reused.

    Hi Mrae!

This is catastrophic, in my opinion. This event should not have been canceled.

  • chris 1 year ago

The very, very small Foundation has $1,000. in their piggy bank. Without volume pre-sale tickets the Foundation was facing financial disaster.

Even cutting the tickets to 1/2 price the sale was dismal.

I find it very suspicious that palin would book a speaking engagement with a tiny foundation the same day as the debate at President Reagan Library hosted by Nancy Reagan.

The is a big debate. It gets national coverage. Especially this historic year of the Celebration of 100 years in honor of President Reagan.

The possible first female candidate for President for the Republican Party and palin doesn't want to attend the debate?

She doesn't want to meet Mrs. Reagan?

In 2008, ten men participated in the debate.\

Some facts seem to be missing from palin's current victim drama story.

The comments posted by some here are over-the-top.

Gun owners ready to take up arms over words? Are you the same gun owners that said words weren't involved influencing the shooter in Tucson?

Devonia's meaning of "hate Comments" is defined as someone who does not agree with her. She did get the onslaught part correct though. An onslaught of well deserved critcism for Sarah Palin.

  • Tom Price 1 year ago

If you really feel strongly that this event should not be cancelled do "the right thing". Go buy up all the unsold tickets so they can give thousands of dollars of charitable donations to Sarah Palin to come there and bable. She can go home much wealthier, the charity will still be poor and you will be broke. Then you and 9 other idiots can sit in an empty banquet room and listen to your dingbat.

    Right, Paul!

That's why I knew Walrus couldn't name one... not one .

He can go all longwinded and shrill on us though. But then that's just what Walrus does when Walrus can't...

Walrus, you kinda remind me of Weiner. I'm sure that's ok with you though.

As for examples of dysfunctional rhetoric just look at leftist comments about Sarah Palin.  The left is obsessed with the woman and rarely do comments contain remarks of substance.  But an absence of substance is yet another indicator that the left is bereft of useful ideas.  The era of big gubby is passe.  California, New York, Michigan, Illinois, NJ, the PIG nations of Europe, Obamanomics...  It's one disaster after another.

It is difficult to say anything substantive about someone with so little substance. Talk about a shriller. The idea that people pay money to listen to her caterwaul astounds me but people also pay good money to drink cow urine. Go figure.

I wish people would lighten up on Palin so that more Republicans would think she has better than a snowballs chance of being elected president. A Palin nomination ensures Obama's reelection

walrus, it is leftists regimes that are going off ledges.  PIGS falling like dominos, American states approaching bankruptcy, public sector pension plans running out of funding, Obama stuck with record deficits and high unemployment.  It's depressing to be believe that bigger government is better. Facts refute you wherever you turn. That's why leftist commenters prefer snarky comments to substantive exchanges.

Paul......................what can I say............Paul, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but as an opponent, you're just not satisfying...you and Paul Hershey need to up your game...it's just not fun...it's like shooting fish in a barrel....look, you and Hersey should not react and post with your gut right away...you're just not built that way...think about things for awhile, then come back and give me zingers that cut right to the bone....it's just not fun any more...come on, you can do it! Bring me your A-Game!...and stop being sticks in the mud...America is a great country and it hurts whenever I hear the two of you speak about it as if it was a 2 bit whore...positive thoughts! think positive thoughts! (and don't come back at me "when conservatives take over blah blah blah.." that is boring and dogmatic...A-Game! remember? A-Game!)

walrus you need to read the news.  The troubles of Europe's PIG nations are well documented.  They are in debt big time.  Too much government spending has caught up with them.  Ireland's bail out of their banking system may have been an imitation of our own bail out policies but it cost the Irish people dearly.  The most fiscally responsible nation there- Germany- is depended on to help Greece and the others.

If you are unaware of California's grave fiscal problems then you have no business posting comments on political news.  Same goes for Michigan, Illinois, NJ and NY. As Governor Christie has pointed out we cannot keep spending money that we do not have, He's done a great job reforming NJ and my dozens of articles about him and his proposals are there for public viewing.  Many links to factual data are attached.  If I err someone will point it out.

  • Profile picture of Paul Williamson
    Paul Williamson 1 year ago

The looming threats to the fiscal integrity of public sector pensions are well documented. Former government workers- teachers, police officers and others- need to be concerned along with the rest of us. I can't help it if you do not know the details or the significance of not having money in the funds 5 to 10 years from now. That's the motivation for some of Christie's reforms.

I do know that you are aware of our high national unemployment rate and the steep rises in our national debt. But if I've erred in assuming that I'll kindly provide the evidential links.

Anonymous internet commenters hardly have the capability to hurt feelings. But it gives me pause to wonder what kind of country my kids are going to live in when I view the comment section of Dev's previous article on Palin and look at the simplistic comments and gratuitous insults that pass for dialog.
