Two numbers get welcomed in to the University of Tulsa women’s basketball staff as the program prepares for another season.
Chelsea Turner and Christine Elliott were named to the staff Thursday by head coach Matilda Mossman. Turner will serve as the Director of Player Development and Team Manager, while Elliott will fill the role of Graduate Manager.
Turner was teammates at Norman (Okla.) North High School with current TU Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach Britney Brown. She was a four-year letter winner at Turner was a four-year letterwinner at Cameron University from 2003-07, and was a coach during the University of Oklahoma Women's Basketball Summer Camps from 2007 to 2012.
"My relationship with Chelsea goes back to when I coached her in high school so I know we are getting a quality individual with a strong work ethic who is fun to be around,” Mossman said. “Chelsea will be instrumental in helping us further our relationship with the Tulsa community, our alumni, as well as our former student-athletes. I am excited about her being a member of our staff and getting to work alongside her every day."
Elliott had previously often been on the opposite bench in game against TU. She was a four-year letterwinner at SMU from 2008-12 before serving as an assistant last season at Butler Community College.
During her career at SMU, she scored 1,167 points and pulled down 900 rebounds, and set records for most rebounds by a freshman (224) and most rebounds in a game (21). Elliott was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team as a senior in 2012 and to the C-USA All-Freshman Team in 2009.
"Christine came highly recommended to us by her high school coach (Mike Helmer), her college coach (Rhonda Rompola) as well as Butler Community College assistant coach (Andy Hamilton),” Mossman said. “She was a tough competitor at SMU and we look forward to having that mentality in our program."
