With a crop of experience coming back, Tulsa is picked to win the Conference USA Softball Championship again. The Golden Hurricane, who won the last two regular season titles and last year’s conference tournament, were picked to do so in a vote by coaches across the league, it was announced Wednesday.
Four players who were All-Conference USA First Team selections last season were also named to the preseason squad. One of those is senior Lacey Middlebrooks, who has been chosen as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Seniors Caitlin Everett (centerfielder) and Samantha Cobb (short stop), along with junior Jill Barrett (third baseman) are the other three preseason all-conference selections.
Middlebrooks was 20-6 record in 2012 with a 2.15 ERA overall. As a batter, she hit .306 with 38 RBI overall.
Barrett set a school single-season record with a .416 batting average and tied the TU record with 79 hits last year. She had 43 runs and 29 RBI.
Everett hit .366 with seven triples, 55 runs and 29 RBI overall, and Cobb batted .339, 11 home runs, 46 RBI and had 46 runs scored.
