Tulsa will have a new running back in its backfield when it begins a new season next fall.

Tavarreon Dickerson has arrived on campus as a junior college transfer, having started classes for the spring semester. It was announced in a press release from school on Wednesday.

Dickerson, a 5-9, 185-pound running back from Arlington, Texas, rushed for 555 yards on 65 carries, an average of 8.5 average per carry, in 2013 at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. TVCC was ranked No. 5 in the final NJCAA poll. Dickerson's best games in 2013 came against Coffeyville Community College, when he rushed for 116 yards on four carries, and against Mesa Community College in the Champs Heart of Texas Bowl, where he gained 126 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

"It's exciting to have a playmaker from a highly-ranked junior college program join our team. The maturity that Tavarreon brings will be important in the running back competition this spring," Tulsa coach Bill Blankenship said. "Coach (Scott) Peach at Arlington High School and Coach (Brad) Smiley at Trinity Valley College speak so highly of Tavarreon and his ability as a running back, that I'm extremely excited to see the things they talk about when discussing him."

Dickerson had considered Tulsa before. The Arlington, Texas native originally signed to play with Utah State in 2012, choosing it over TU, Pittsburgh, Indiana and Kansas. But he later transferred to TVCC.

During his high school career, Dickerson rushed for 1,815 yards on 192 carries, with an average of 9.5 yards per carry with 24 touchdowns. He also had 11 receptions for 191 yards and two TDs. Dickerson earned second-team all Texas Class 5A accolades his senior season and was the District MVP. As a junior, he rushed for 1,584 yards and 21 touchdowns.
