TU finishes 2012 at No. 25

Tulsa’s success this season brings one more accolade, and that is a spot in the final poll. The Golden Hurricane, who finished the season at 11-3 overall after defeating Iowa State, 31-17, in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on New Year’s Eve in Memphis, Tenn. were voted in as No. 25 in the final USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll for 2012

TU also got some votes from Associated Press voters but did not make that poll.

Both polls were released Monday night after the end of the BCS Championship game.

TU had won the Conference USA West Division, then won the conference after beating UCF, 33-27, in overtime in the league championship game. The win earned the Hurricane a berth into the Liberty Bowl.

The final ranking is Tulsa’s second in two years in either AP or coaches polls. It finished the 2010 campaign at No. 24 in the last AP poll.

This year is also the third time in the last five years that the Hurricane was ranked at any point of the season. They were ranked No. 18 in the USA Today poll and 19th in the AP poll in 2008.
