TU cornerback dismissed from team

Darnell Walker Jr., a cornerback for the Tulsa, is no longer with the program. He was dismissed Thursday, coach Bill Blankenship confirmed in a school press release.

No reason was given for the dismissal, other than actions cited of unbecoming of the standards set forth for a Golden Hurricane football player, which was stated in the release.

“We have high standards from an academic, athletic and social standpoint that we expect our football student-athletes to uphold in representing our football program and The University of Tulsa. This is unfortunate, but is in the best interest of our football team,” Blankenship said.

Walker, whose father Darnell Walker Sr. is the cornerbacks coach and a former All-Big Eight defensive back at Oklahoma, played 11 games in the 2013 season as a red-shirt freshman. In seven starts at cornerback and started one game at safety, Walker totaled 52 tackles, had eight pass break-ups and four interceptions.
