TU beats Houston on the road

Scottie Haralson scored 19 points, including 11 straight in a second half run to lead Tulsa in an 87-72 win over Houston Wednesday night at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Fifteen of Haralson’s points came via five 3-point field goals. He was the first of five players who finished in two figures for the Golden Hurricane (12-8 overall, 4-2 in Conference USA). Tim Peete, who put up a career-high, and James Woodard each got 14 points, Pat Swilling Jr. scored 11 and Kauri Black put up 10.

The Cougars (12-6, 1-4) were led by Joseph Young’s 16 points. Daniel House and TaShawn Thomas logged 15 and 12 points respectively.

The Hurricane shot 51 percent (31-of-51) from the field, 48 percent (12-of-25) in 3s and 58 percent (13-of-19) in free throws. Houston finished with 41 percent (22-of-54) shooting, 25 percent (5-of-20) in 3s and 82 percent (23-of-28) in free throws.

Both teams finished even in the rebound battle, 35-35.

TU never trailed but was engaged in two ties with the Cougars early. It led 40-32 at halftime. Largest lead was 22 points with the score being 63-41 with 10:42 left in the game.

Next up for the Golden Hurricane is first-place Southern Miss Saturday at the Reynolds Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
